Using a combination of scanner, software and hundreds of hours of practice I can alter the content or composition of a damaged or imperfect photo. Afterwards, it is all but impossible to tell. Take a look at the examples further down this page. In every case, you can see a larger version by clicking on the photo. I do most image alteration by taking a sample of part of the background of the photo and copying it to another part of the image. I can "erase" an object that I want to remove, by covering it with new pixels that appear to be a continuation of the background. Click here to see an example. Another technique I sometimes use is cutting out an area from one picture and inserting it into another. This may sound easier but actually the hard part is making the inserted part match with its new surroundings. Luckily, the excellent "Adobe Photoshop" program that I use has a number of features designed to make this all easier. Click here to see an example.

The following photographs show the finished versions of various images I have worked on. To see larger versions of these photographs, both after and before alteration, click on the pictures themselves or select the link below. If your internet connection is a little slow, you may have to wait twenty or thirty seconds for both pictures (after and before) to finish downloading.

The price for altering a photograph is based on how many hours it takes me to complete the task. Before finally agreeing to alter a picture I will give an estimate which I will then stick to, even if unexpectedly, the work takes me longer than expected. If on the other hand, it turns out to be easier, the price might well come down. I charge £15.00 per hour based on half-hourly increments so that makes my starting price £7.50, which should cover a simple scratch removal or the alteration of one or two small elements. To get more idea of the time involved in different operations, take a look at the larger versions of the examples above. You may also need to pay mailing costs (both ways) unless you are able to send your photo to me electronically. You will need to pay me by cheque (or international money order). When I complete the work I will send you an e-mail with a small version of the finished picture. At this stage you can ask me to make further alterations and can decide whether or not you want to pay me. But only when I receive your payment, will I mail you the full-sized finished pictures.
