Special Effects With JavaScript

All of the JavaScript Effects on this site have been hand-coded by myself. Most of what you will see is the result of three weeks of fairly intense self-study with the help of a couple of books.

One book that was especially helpful was: "The Book Of Javascript" by Dave Thau. While some of my scripts may resemble examples given in that book, in every case, there are some differences where I have added something extra of my own.

On this page you will find a brief description of each effect and a link to a page where you can see it in action

Date Writer

Adding today's date to a page can have the effect of making your page appear more current and up-to-date. You can put the date anywhere you want on the page, as I have tried to show in this example.

Count Down To The Big Day

Having a count-down box somewhere on your page can draw attention to a forthcoming event you've got planned or warn customers that they have a limited time until a special offer expires. This one has a festive theme.

Pop-Up Windows

They may annoy some people but pop-up windows are a good way of catching a visitor's attention. Many of the largest and best established internet commerce companies use them and with a little imagination their offensiveness can be lessened... or maybe not. See what you think.

Quizzes and Personality Tests

Some people just love quizzes and personality tests. By answering a few quesions they can find out all about themselves. With a little ingenuity the questions and the feedback they eventually receive can be tailored to carry your own subtle (or not-so-subtle) message as this page attempts to show.

Thumb-Nail Slide Show

This is an alternative to having large numbers of tiny pictures lined up in rows across the page. By showing just one picture at a time should focus the visitor's attention more on each one and they can still be clicked to display the full-sized version - as this page should demonstrate.
